Freshwater fish are perhaps the easiest fish to keep in comparison to saltwater species because they are generally hardier fish. A basic freshwaterfish tank set up will is needed . You will need a fish tank, some rocks or shingle or sand to line bottom of the tank. You will also need a filter, and some lighting. When picking fish, it is of the utmost importance to make sure the fish can live together . Not only do they need to be compatible for water temperature and P.H. , but they need to have eat the same food requirement . Preferably keep the fish a similar average size. A well know saying is that if a fish is small enough to fit in anothers mouth, that is generally where it ends up. Sodon’tbediscouragedif this happens.Even fish that have been kept together for several months have been known to go missingon occasion. It is a good practice when fish keeping to keep a diary of effents so you know  exactly that has happened in your fish tank

Feeding two times a day is important for freshwater fish. Feed only a small amount that can be consumed within the first two to five minutes. Feeding to much is a quite often made mistake among beginner fish keepers. Any excess food should be taken out of the aquarium with a net if conceivable, as it will become debris and after not to long dirty the tank. Your freshwater aquarium water should be kept regulated and tested weekly . Any discrepancies in P.H. and water temperature should be made goodimmediacy in order to minimize stress caused to the fish. Stress is very important because it causes sickness in fish. It is imperative to keep a check on the activity and overall well being of the fish in an aquarium. The signs of stress will be fairly obvious. Slow moving or lethargic looking fish will require a stress coat that can be brought from an aquatic centeror on line . Try to avoid overcrowding the tank. This should help to minimise the amount of stress caused to the fish.

A third of the water should be changed in the aquarium on a regular basis , because changing this level of water will cause the least amount of disturbance to the fish and other inhabitants. This will need to be done every two to three weeks . Use either a pail or a siphon to remove the water from the tank . Try to remove any loose or floating debris at this time. When adding the new water to the aquarium, make sure that the temperature is within approximately two degrees of the tank water. The sides of the aquarium should be scrubbed on a regular basis to remove an algae build up. Again be careful not to disturb the fish. Wash your hands thoroughly before and after handling the aquarium. Finally , keep to the manufacturer’s recommendation on filters and change them as required . Filters collect any fish waste or left over food. They will not function correctly unless they are clean.

Whoever has a Tropical fish tank will always be in search of adding new fish to their tanks. Here are three tips which will make the job easier for you:

1. The Drip Approach

This approach is suitable for most of the tropical fish because they cannot withstand sudden changes in pH and other chemical and physical changes in the water.

In this method, you set up a small tank with the help of a bucket, suction cup, tubes and clips. You will connect the tube from the large tank to the smaller one and allow the water to be mixed. This way there will be gradual changes in the properties and composition of water and after the fish start behaving normally you can put them in your tropical fish tank. For tropical fish the process takes a few hours longer as they have slow acclimatization process.

2. The Floating Bag Approach

The most commonly used method is the floating bag approach. You will be required to just out the bag that you brought from the pet shop to be immersed into the tropical fish tank. When you leave the pet shop go straight to your home because if you leave the fish to stay longer in that bag, ammonia will start polluting the water. Another technique could be to mix small amounts of the aquarium water with the water in the bag. This will allow slight changes in the temperature and other factors that affect the tropical fish. After an hour you can put the fish into the aquarium with the help of a small fish net.

3. The Bucket Approach

This approach is similar to the floating bag method. But in this one you place the bag in a bucket and spill out one fourth the amount of water. You are going to replace that amount with equal amount from the aquarium. Make sure that the bucket you use is clean or otherwise you might be risking your fish’s health.

When you use acclimatization methods, your fish get more comfortable in your tropical fish aquarium.

When you start with a new tropical fish tank, you might have difficulty in choosing the kind of fish you should have. Here in this article, you will find descriptions of three fish Rosy Barb, Striped Hatchet Fish and Swordtail. These fish are most suitable for tropical fish tanks.

Rosy Barb

This fish has a slightly misleading name. This fish is rosy in color only during the mating season. The fish is olive green and silver the other times of the year. It has big scales on its surface too. The males and he females are easily distinguished from each other because females have yellow fins while male have red ones. Also, the males grow larger in size. Condition the fish before mating by feeding them with exclusive live feed. The female should be isolated before the males and put into a separate tank if you are not using a breeding trap. Their fry do not need very special food.

Striped Hatchet Fish

This fish is visible clearly only when the light in the aquarium is sufficient. Hatchet’s feed should contain some live feed along with the dry feed. If you want to have hatchet in your aquarium you will need to have open areas at the top because this fish feeds at the surface. Their females are generally thicker. The fish is silver and olive green in color. Hatchet does not breed easily. If you want them to breed then you should have floating plants. Spawning mats are required for the eggs otherwise the fish might eat them. The fry are however, easier to take care of.

Swordtail

This fish has sword shaped fins. They are green and red in color. As the fish grows up, its sex can change from female to male. It likes algae and needs a large tank where it can swim around. They produce around 60 young fish during the breeding season which is quite a lot. Breeding trap is necessary for them. The fry can be given tubed live feed after few days of hatching.

When you are in the process of setting up a tropical fish tank, you should know a few basics. Taking too much care can also harm the fish and most of the times the fish die due to this. A tropical fish tank guide will help you to know all the important points regarding fish keeping. It’ll tell you about all the mistakes that beginners make.

It is very hard to select the amount of feed your fish need. Some of you might over-feed the fish thus making them ill. The tropical fish tank guide will tell you all about the time and amount of feed you need to give to your fish. You should study the habits of your fish and understand their needs. It is always preferred to feed your fish with a little less.

A tropical fish tank guide will provide you with all the theoretical points that you have to implement them. When you are feeding your fish, look closely so that you know that each of them gets a good amount of feed. There exists competition among fish so you should make sure that one fish does not dominate your tropical fish tank. All of them should get equal amount of food. If the fish are not attracted to the food then you should know that they do not like the taste. You can try some other type of feed. Another important point is that you should add the feed at the same place every time. This makes the fish get used to it and then they expect to get food from that point only.

If this is possible, you should feed the fish in lesser amounts but more frequently. If you work somewhere and stay out of home for longer periods of time, then you should add a large amount of feed to your tropical fish tank before you go out. The tropical fish tank guide will give you reliable information in this regard. But if something goes wrong, then you should follow your instincts rather than wasting valuable time by searching about what to do.

Buying the right dog gates is important when trying to limit your pet’s access to certain areas of your home. But before you hit shops that sell puppy supplies, you have to know first the different types of dog gates available. The following are some of the basic types:

Swing dog gates:

A dog gate with swinging doors is easy to install and use. Most swing dog gates will require you to attach hinges on the walls for easy access. Swing dog gates are perfect if you want restraining equipment that you can easily open, close, and lock.

Walk over dog gates:

Walk over dog gates are perfect for owners of small pets. These gates are small or short enough to be walked over by you or other members of the family while still offering enough restriction for your pet.

Dog gates with small pet door:

Another option worth checking out when buying dog gates is a dog gate with a small pet door. This is perfect for you if you own both a dog and a cat as pets. As the dog gate prevents your canine friend from accessing restricted areas, your pet cat can simply walk through the small pet door. This ensures that your pet dog and cat won’t cause any trouble while inside the home.

Choosing the right type of dog gate:

When choosing the right type for your needs, you should consider your pet’s size, the size of the area where you wish to place the gates, your budget, and of course, the quality of the product. Never compromise the quality of the product over your budget because a flimsy dog gate will just cost you more in the long run. Opt for a sturdy gate that can withstand daily use and wear and tear. One brand worth checking out is Four Paws gate for dogs.

If you’re on a tight budget, you can check out shops (both online and offline) and look for discounts and sales. Some online shops offer exclusive online deals so better check out these before making a purchase.

A whole lot of us pet owners start off the same way. You wandered past the pet store, went inside to browse and fell in love with the cute pup with the adorable eyes or even the nice fluffy rabbit. You just aren’t able to resist taking her home. Wait! Ask yourself these questions before committing yourself to adopting a pet:

1) Are you ready to do the dirty jobs?

Domestic pets, the same as all animals, need washing. Do you have the dedication to give your pet a bath on a regular basis? Even worse, are you prepared to thoroughly clean up after she poos? Unless of course you are lucky enough to have someone at home to assist, you will most likely have to get your hands dirty on a regular basis.

Owning a pet is sometimes like having a newborn, there is a lot of effort behind the cuteness!

2) Have you budgeted enough for this?

You might possibly afford purchasing the pet from the store, but do you have enough to cover the daily costs? You will need to find out how much it costs to feed your pet, not forgetting medical costs of bringing her to the vet and the occasional treats such as toys and stuff.

Many owners miscalculate the cost of having a pet at home and end up neglecting the poor animal or having them end up in an animal shelter. Please do not make the same mistake.

3) Do you and any of your loved ones have any allergic reactions

Perhaps you may love your furry friend, but your loved ones may not feel the same. Worse still, they might suffer from medical conditions that make it inconvenient to own a pet. Unless you are staying on your own, it might be a very good idea to find out from your family if they are agreeable to having a new addition to the household.

These are simply three things you’ll want to ask yourself before committing yourself to a pet. Bear in mind that while having a new pet can be an extremely fulfilling experience, it is also a huge responsibility. A good idea would be to not make a rash decision but to take some time to find out more about taking care of a pet, be it a cat, dog, or even fishes. You may want to speak to existing pet owners and find out the difficulties that they face. Following that, should you be still looking towards having a pet, go for it!

Have fun and good luck!
