A positive association will soon become ingrained in her mind between not whining, and good things happening to her .

  • she may be whining out of pain

Please bear in mind that your puppy may be whining out of pain. A good way to test this is to lightly touch specific areas of your puppy, to see if she winces in any way. Even if you have some doubts, she really should see a veterinarian .

Why Are Dogs Destructive?

“Prince is a digger.”  Angie hugged Prince, a four year old Boston Terrier, close beside her on the couch.  “He claws at the door, near the windows, anywhere he thinks he can get outside.”  Prince’s busy feet have caused Angie lots of stress and aggravation.  “My landlord was furious when he came in and saw the door and the wall next to the door. It wound up costing me almost a thousand dollars to pay for the repairs. I promised him Prince would stop – and I can’t afford for him not to!”

Why Are Dogs Destructive?

There are different types of destructive behavior. There’s what is known as exuberant destruction, in which a dog (generally younger, larger dogs) knocks over tables, lamps, and other items while bounding around the house. This behavior happens while the dog is playing and attempting to enjoy itself.

Scratching and chewing on doors, walls, and furniture is another type of destruction.  This type of destruction is a result of your dog’s negative emotions: boredom, anxiety, stress, depression, and even resentment can all lead to a dog damaging his living environment. The causes of negative emotional states in dogs can often be attributed to our lifestyles – when we’re away from the home most of the time, our dogs are left alone, indoors, without anything or anyone to interact with.  Isolation can contribute to the stress levels a dog experiences, and negatively impact their health.

How To Stop Your Dog’s Destructive Tendencies

To alleviate your dog’s destructive tendencies, it’s important to take a two part approach.  Destructive behavior may have its origins in boredom or depression, but there’s an element of learning go on as well. A dog who feels a lack of attention quickly discovers that they get some attention – even if it’s negative – by chewing up the couch. Combining common dog training techniques with a change in the dog’s daily life experiences is the best approach to alleviate destructive behavior.

Understand what your dog’s basic needs are. In addition to food, water, and a warm, safe place to sleep, a dog needs interaction with other living things.  Dogs are social animals: they enjoy being in a pack setting.  Dog daycare provides the interaction and socialization opportunities so critical for optimal canine health.  Even older dogs, who  may appear to just be sitting on the sidelines, watching, benefit from the companionship of other dogs.  Increases in energy levels and appetite alike have been reported by owners of older dogs who begin attending dog daycare.

Dogs also have a need for physical and mental exercise.  Dog day care provides this with play time for the dogs.  Another option is the use of a dog walking service.  Dog walking services make sure that your dog gets out of the house on a regular basis.  This is good physical exercise.  Additionally, your dog is exposed to sights and sounds out of the ordinary, keeping his mind alert and alleviating boredom.  Walks are fun for dogs: a dog walking service gives your dog something to look forward to every day.

A pet dog is often treated as a part of the family. It is therefore not surprising if dogs will be provided with all their needs and more. Dogs will be provided with toys as they will be the babies of the family. Dog owners are so excited to buy trendy clothes and accessories for the pet. Dogs are allowed to share not only the bed but all the other things used by the owner. Dogs indeed are much loved pets but would it be wise to make the dog use the grooming supplies and tools of the owner?

Dogs owners are aware that the pet needs to be regularly groomed as it is a vital factor in keeping the dog healthy and happy. The grooming routine will maintain the impressive appearance of the dog but grooming does have another function and that is preventing health concerns from developing. Any parasite can be eradicated at once before the infestation spreads. Depending on how the pet was trained, the grooming session can be happy and hilarious moments or a challenging task that would daunt the most determined dog owner

The right tools and supplies will make the owner’s task of grooming the dog a lot more easier. One vital part of grooming is brushing the dog’s coat. The owner’s brushes and combs must never be used on the dog even if the pet is very clean and parasite free. The brushes and the combs to groom the pet with must be chosen depending on the type of coat of the dog thus the owner can choose from soft bristle and pin brushes, wire or slicker brushes.

It would be a good idea to have blunt tipped scissors for trimming the dog’s hair as well or a stripping knife if the pet is one of the breeds that need to be stripped. Other grooming tools are nail clippers to keep the dog’s nails trimmed and hemostat which is necessary in removing excess hair from the dog’s ears.

Dogs must have their own grooming supplies as human supplies can have dangerous effects to the dog. Shampoos, conditioner, soaps and other grooming supplies that are formulated for humans must not be used in dogs as they may not be tolerated by the sensitive skin of the dog. The same thing is true with human toothpaste. Instead of being spitted out, the toothpaste will be swallowed. Dogs may be harmed by the ingredients in the toothpaste formulated for humans.

Grooming tools and supplies for the pet can be found on any pet supply store thus there is no excuse to use human tools and supplies to groom the pet.

At Sarah’s Dogs you can read more about dog grooming and gromming tools and supplies/a>.

Autumn is always the best time to sort through  your equestrian apparel ,  riding clothing  , riding boots and riding equipment to check for damage, to see what needs to be cleaned, and to create a to do list   ï»¿ of necessities and fun new riding clothing . New peroducts are just arriving , making this the best possible time to put that shopping list and those organizational skills to use. Your equestrian apparel serves many functions and needs to be in the best possible condition to work properly. Riding equipment, tack, and horse clothing fall into the same category. Broken buckles, worn straps, and ill-fitting apparel must be replaced, enabling you to look, feel, and perform at your very best.

The lined or fleeced horse riding breeches  that served you well through the cold winter months are now too heavy to be safe or functional for intensive training or on long trail rides. Safety and comfort are paramount any time you are riding. You can ensure that you have the necessary freedom of movement while maintaining close contact with your horse and still look sleek and stylish with this year’s latest styles . Difference Between Spring And Winter Riding

Winter means wearing lots of layers  , heavy jackets, lined gloves and boots, thick socks, turtleneck shirts and sweaters, and heavy horse riding breeches. As spring approaches, that wardrobe is no longer safe or functional. You can get overheated and you do not have the range of motion needed for more strenuous training sessions.

Riding in the spring frequently means longer rides , so comfort becomes more of an issue. While gloves are still needed, you don’t want the bulky linings that were necessary during winter. Lighter weight apparel, more suited to spring and summer, provide you with attractive fluidity of movement, especially with all the beautiful new styles that have just arrived. Your horse will appreciate a lighter weight blanket or stable sheet as well.

Look For New Spring Riding Clothing Arrivals

Nearly all of the major equestrian apparel designers ï»¿ have released their latest styles of breeches , shirts , show coats , and horse clothing. Instead of making do with worn-out old clothing , you can take advantage of the latest spring sales on riding apparel and get some deals  .

Horse riding breeches now come in new materials and styles that take advantage of the latest in textile research, providing riders with improved breathability, increased comfort, and elegant details that will make you stand out from the crowd in and out of the show ring. This year’s breeches look and function better than ever.

Yes. German Shepherds do shed. A lot? Well, I would have to say that that in many ways this is up to the owner because some people may have more have more of an aversion to dog, cat or any kind of pet hair than others do. Personally, I’ve been around German Shepherds since I was a kid so I don’t even think about their shedding any more – it’s just a part of life for me and my dogs and we just handle it as it comes. Not having dog hairs for me would mean that I don’t have a GSD either and I’d much rather have the dog (and it’s coat) any day than a spotless house.

There is a chance you’ll hear them referred to as “German Shedders” by people too. Why? Because they do shed – pretty reasonably all year long. I can tell you this without reservation although – if you are offended by dog hair and have a “clean junkie” type personality, then do not get a German Shepherd Dog because you will have to deal with dog hair. I promise you that.

New owners of German Shepherds, also named Alsatians, or people thinking about getting one, however, need to be aware that GSDs do shed. Just so you’ll know, the GSD is a “double-coated” dog breed. This means that its coat consists of a fluffy undercoat that helps insulate the dog and stiffer guard hairs on the top that help “waterproof” the dog.

Now here’s the main issue you need to keep in mind about the GSD and its coat – those guard hairs on the outside will be shed – all year long – every day. And what about that fluffy undercoat? It gets shed too – about twice a year – once in the spring and again in the fall as the seasons change. This is what many people refer to as “blowing coat” so if you hear that term thrown around you’ll know what it means.

When they do seasonally blow coat you can easily comb out enough dead hair to make a good sized Pekingese statue with all the dead hair. During this shedding process do yourself a favor and buy an undercoat rake, also called a shedding rake. This is the best grooming tool on the planet for removing all that dead undercoat easily on a GSD and will help you maintain your sanity as your dog “blows” its coat. The rest of the year you can take control of shedding easily by combing your dogs daily and vacuuming as necessary.

And what about long-coated German Shepherds?

Many people own the longer coated Alsatians. No problem. In fact, I’ve owned several of them myself as well. But keep this in mind, the longer coat does need more grooming overall to keep it in tip top shape. I would also like to take the time to point out that in my observations of owning both long and standard coated GSDs that it seems that my longer coated German Shepherds seem to physically shed less than my shorter coated GSDs – but the tradeoff is that they need more hands on grooming.

So, if you want a German Shepherd – really, really want a GSD, then you’re going to have to deal with a dog that sheds all year too. So buy some new bags for your vacuum cleaner or get a good broom because you will need it – because German Shepherd Dogs do shed! A lot.

It is frequent in a home that dog and child have to cohabit. This cohabitation can reveal a marvelous experiment for all the family but can sometimes prove to be delicate if some simple precautions are not taken.

Do you have to give in to the request of your child?

The purchase of a dog must, above all, be a thoughtful act; you must take several points into account. All the family must want your new companion and be prepare to invest their time: a dog needs walks, games (especially for the puppies), but it will also be necessary that everyone will take part in the education of the newcomer as well as with the repair of potential damages. Also do not forget that the adoption of a dog has a price and that everyone including your child must be aware of it. Moreover, it might be necessary to use pet sitting for your dog in the event of departure in weekend or on holiday, and it will then be required to find a pension for him, which is not always easy.

How to prepare your dog for the arrival of a baby

Before the arrival of your child, it is important to make sure that your dog and your baby will be able to become the best friends in the world. For that, it is necessary to prepare your dog for the arrival of the baby. It is first of all necessary to familiarize your dog with babies and young children. For that it is important to associate the presence of the child with a pleasant situation: petting, treats, games… If he avoids them if he attacks them, consult a veterinary in order to resolve these problems of cohabitation before the arrival of your child.

You must start to decrease gradually, during pregnancy, the duration of the cuddles, because time that you will have to devote to him will be less when the baby is born. When your child is born, you will have to be more attentive towards your dog, to give him more attention (by caresses and games) when your child is in the same room, and to give him less attention when the child is not there. Your dog will think then: “child=cuddles”.

It is imperatively necessary to take some precautions of hygiene before the arrival of your child: treat your dog against external parasites (fleas and ticks). When the mom and the baby are at the maternity hospital, the dad will be able to bring back linen of the mother and the child so that the dog will get use to these odors in the house.

It is not necessary “to officially introduce” the child to the dog, let your dog take the initiative of the first contact, under your close supervision. The first thing your dog will do is to smell your child. If it already had the occasion to smell his odor (thanks to the linens brought back by the dad), this first contact will take place without problems.

Keep in mind that a child of less than three years old is not ready to decode your dog’s body language. Your child is thus likely not to become aware that he is annoying the dog, and that if the dog grumbles it is to warn that he can bite. When your child will grow up, teach him how to decipher the language of the dog: when he is happy, when he is dissatisfied, when he is waiting for something, when he needs pet care etc… This will reinforce the complicity between your dog and your child.

Conclusion

A dog is a very good playfellow for children and an irreplaceable factor of awakening. If you follow these few advices, the harmony will be perfect.

If you’re looking for dog or cat medical care insurance, you preferably should be aware of any pre-existing conditions your animal might possibly have. A pre-existing problem is any kind of health related issue which was there before registration into the plan. This can include things like an injury, diseases, or hereditary problem. A large percentage of pet dog or cat insurance businesses will check with your vet to get health and well being documents on your home animals not to mention seeking a health care history. A prior disorder or impairment will typically add up as a pre-existing state whether or not the family pet wasn’t yet viewed by a vet. Here is an example, if you decide to escort the pet dog or cat to the veterinarian right after enrolling, the disease would not be dealt with if it started out prior to enrolling. A connected disease may also be perceived as pre-existing. By way of example, if your pet had cancer cells before being protected, an unrelated category of cancer later on may be considered as being a pre-existing issue. Congenital or type-specific disorders, along the lines of hip dysplasia, are judged to be pre-existing by numerous schemes.

If it turns out your pet is carrying a pre-existing ailment, you’ll find that certain pet coverage sellers will not provide insurance coverage for your family pet. Some others may perhaps supply modest policy coverage, along the lines of traumasonly.or decline to agree to claims connected with the pre-existing injury. Sometimes, there may be a waiting period of time before a complaint would be dealt with. When the pre-existing disease is not disclosed when the plan is paid for, it may likely be revealed when a claim is made for that issue and the insurance company collects facts from the treating veterinarian.

Certain pet insurance institutions will give consideration to pre-existing illnesses during renewal as well as throughout the first approval policy. If your pet dog or cat was being dealt with and protected for any ailment throughout your insurance time period, as soon as the time arrives to renew, the corporation may find the condition will now be pre-existing and won’t be paid for or could be grounds for not renewing the coverage at all.

For a family pet with a pre-existing issue, pet animal health insurance can continue to be of great benefit if a policy is located which provides you with coverage for additional conditions. Outlays relating to the pre-existing condition will never be taken care of. An additional solution may possibly be to start thinking about a discounted plan by way of a veterinarian health care office or discount card. That might not be thought of as an insurance protection plan, but might possibly result in cost savings. In certain states, nonprofit services or no-interest credit programs may also be in existence for critical vet fees. Ordering medical care insurance for a young pet dog or cat minimizes the likelihood that pre-existing conditions exist.
