What are the reasons for the dog’s aggression

In spite of the close association between man and dogs, these animals’ aggression have resulted to dog attacks that caused minor to fatal injuries. Every year more than four million dog owners and non-dog owners needs medical attention for minor to fatal injuries resulting from dog attacks. Dogs are inherently feral and the aggressive behavior is further honed for dogs utilized for protection work. However, there must be a reason why dogs are acclaimed as man’s best friends. Since the time dogs were domesticated, they have become man’s most loyal and affectionate pets. However, dogs are predators and even a well trained and well mannered home companion will never lose its high prey drive. A situation in the environment will trigger the latent ferocious nature of a gentle dog and the dog will attack.

Dogs have the strength to knock people down. A dog’s jaws and teeth have the power to deliver hundred pounds of pressure on human flesh thus it would not be surprising if people will be wary of these animals. Dogs are wonderful creatures and most people would choose a dog for a pet. It is really quite unfortunate that some dogs with aggressive behaviors would mar the outstanding reputation of man’s best friends.

What can be the reason why dogs attack humans? The attacks of dogs are commonly caused by human behaviors that trigger the dormant ferocious nature of these animals. For all the care people gave the their pet dogs, a lot of dog bite incidents are caused by the victim’s own pet. Being pack oriented, a dog that is allowed to take the alpha male role will dominate other pack members. A doting pet owner may allow the dog to be pushy. Pet owners are advised against allowing a pet to be pushy as this behavior can turn into aggressiveness that will make the dog attack at the slightest provocation.

Dogs are very protective of their territory. A dog will attack if potential danger to what is considered as its territory is perceived. Never approach an eating dog especially if it has puppies as being territorial, the dog can attack. In a dog’s eyes, the family as well as other animals in the household are members of the pack. The children being members of the pack will be protected by the dog thus the screaming and laughter of playing children can make the dog attack.

Not all people love dogs. Dogs that are at the receiving end of humans cruel hands will attack either in fear or in self defense. Sweet, loving and affectionate are the common descriptions given to dogs but abused dogs adopted from shelters would still have the tendency to attack due to a fearful or an aggressive temperament.
